Well, it is league championship week here in Mass. with most of the leagues already having their league championship, and quite a few holding them tomorrow.  Not really much in the way of surprises this week, so don't expect much change.

Team (Last Weeks Ranking)... * = Outside top ten last week

1. Methuen (1)- They maintain the top spot after defeating Lowell last week and not really doing anything this week.  Merrimack Valley Conf. championship is tomorrow though, and Lowell will be looking for revenge.

2. Mansfield (2)- The defending champs ran away with the Hockomock Conf. championship, so they maintain their second place spot.

3. Lowell (3)- See Methuen I guess... they will be looking for revenge at MVCs tommorrow, should be another good one.

4. Brookline (4)- They should be able to win the Bay State Conference tommorrow.  Until then, they maintain their spot.

5. Marshfield (5)- Sigh, what a boring week at the top.  Same deal, just maintaining after a boring week.

6. Westboro (9)- Westboro moves up after winning the Mid Wach B conference, beating out former #6 Nashoba in a close one (31-39).  It has been a crazy year in Central Mass, and this win for Westboro just adds to it.

7. Newton North (7)- They also maintain their spot after a relatively boring week outside CMASS.

8. Shrewsbury (10)- They win the Mid Wach A Conference, beating out a very strong Wachusett squad.  This team has been all over the board this year, but if they keep running like they did at Mid Wach A, they should move up.

9. Wachusett (*)- They finally get back in the top ten after just narrowly losing to Shrewsbury at their conference meet.  Better times than Nashoba, so they get ninth.

10. Nashoba (6)- Tough luck for Nashoba, losing to Westboro and not with particularly impressive times.  I still think they are really good, though, perhaps they just had a bad race.

Outside the Top 10

  • St. John's Shrewsbury gets bumped out by Wachusett, but they are still extremely strong.  Basically they are top ten material that lost the luck of the draw.
  • At the Catholic Conference Classic tommorrow, St. John's Prep should be getting their best runner back and their third or fourth guy back from injury.  Should be interesting to see how they do at almost full strength.
  • Congrats to Peabody who wrapped up an undefeated regular season by defeating Beverly, and expect them to easily take the Northeastern Conference Meet at Bradley Palmer Park tommorrow.

On the D2 Front

  • Pembroke dominated the Patriot League Meet, solidifying their spot at the top.
  • Expect Newburyport to win the Cape Ann League Meet tommorrow, but not without stiff competition from Hamilton-Wenham and North Andover.
  • Any team with Johnny Gregorek is going to compete, so look out for Seekonk.

On the Girls Side

  • The Wachusett girls dominated the Mid Wach A Girls Meet, soldifying their spot behind Lincoln-Sudbury and Newton South in Division 1.
  • The Bishop Feehan girls stay atop the Division 2 rankings after not doing anything this week.
  • The Cape Ann League should be an interesting meet, but expect Hamilton-Wenham to win easily.

Well, that's it for this week.  MSTCAs are next weekend, and then the Divisional States are the following week with All States the week after.  Ah, how I love championship season :D
